Fabulous 1986 Mark Lavatelli original one-of-a-kind framed crossroads abstract expressionism artwork, encaustic painting technique on paper.
Hand-signed, dated, and titled by the artist with pencil on the back.
This unique artwork is a vibrant abstract piece that uses a dynamic composition of geometric shapes. Features an energetic interplay of intersecting lines and angular planes, creating a sense of depth and movement. The composition is unbalanced yet harmonious, with shapes pushing against each other and overlapping to define different zones within the frame.
The color scheme is bold and contrasted, combining various shades of blue, green, pink, yellow, black, and cream.
It is presented in a simple, natural light maple wood frame with plexiglass. The artwork within the frame is set off by a wide white mat, which provides a clean and elegant presentation that allows the artwork itself to be the focal point. This exquisite artwork is a breathtaking piece of collectible art.
Mark Lavatelli is an American painter, educator, and freelance critic known for his distinctive work that combines geometric abstraction with natural themes, primarily focusing on trees and landscapes. He is a "Living Legacy Artist" at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo, New York.
Lavatelli's signature medium is encaustic, an ancient and highly permanent technique involving heated beeswax mixed with pigments. He manipulates the wax surface using incising, scraping, collage, and glazing to create rich textures.
His work has been exhibited extensively in museum and gallery permanent collections across the United States since the 1980s, including solo and group shows at institutions like the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Brooklyn Museum, Bronx Museum of Art, Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, and University of New Mexico Fine Arts Museum. He has received numerous awards, grants, and residencies throughout his career.
