This exquisite French Art Nouveau writing desk dates to the late 19th or early 20th century and is richly hand-carved from solid walnut. The design features flowing botanical forms, dramatic iris flowers, and rare dragonfly motifs — a hallmark of the Art Nouveau movement, which celebrated nature, symbolism, and organic lines.
The curved cabriole legs are sculpted with oversized iris blossoms that wrap gracefully into the apron, giving the desk a sense of movement and elegance. The front apron panel is deeply carved with a stylized garden scene featuring dragonflies in flight, flowering plants, and curling vines.
The desk includes drawers on both sides with carved floral fronts, offering functional storage while maintaining visual symmetry. The top is framed with carved floral borders and retains its original finish and writing surface.
This is a true collector’s piece — far beyond decorative furniture — and would make a stunning statement as a writing desk, hall table, or centerpiece in a refined interior.

All carvings, drawers, and joints are intact and secure. There are two small areas of surface chipping to the carved iris petals (shown in close-up photos), exposing a bit of the lighter wood beneath. These are cosmetic only and consistent with the age and hand-carved nature of the piece. They do not affect stability or overall presentation and could be easily touched up by a conservator if desired. The writing surface shows visible wear and finish loss from over a century of use, which is typical for an authentic Art Nouveau desk and contributes to its antique patina. No cracks, no loose joints, no missing or broken structural elements. less
