The screen has since been mounted onto a rigid support and fitted with hanging hardware, allowing it to be displayed as a single, continuous wall artwork while preserving the original panel divisions and painted surface. The composition features finely rendered peonies in soft white and golden yellow, surrounded by delicately detailed foliage and animated blue birds in flight and at rest. Set against a lovely gold-yellow background, the scene has a serene, balanced quality that is both decorative and symbolic, with peonies traditionally representing prosperity and beauty, and birds suggesting harmony and seasonal renewal. The painting is executed in a classical Japanese style with subtle shading, graceful line work, and a restrained yet rich color palette. A vertical calligraphic inscription/signature and red seal mark appear on the left panel, adding authenticity and visual interest. Now functioning as wall art, the piece has the scale and presence of a large folding screen while offering the practicality of a framed panel. It measures approximately 69.5 inches wide by 35 inches high, making it ideal for display above a sofa, console, or bed, and bringing warmth, elegance, and a sense of history to both traditional and contemporary interiors. There are a few small surface imperfections to the painted ground consistent with age, as well as minor wear and a small nick to the black frame, visible in the photos. The original folding hinges are no longer present, as the panels have been mounted to a rigid backing for wall display. These details do not detract from the overall presentation and are typical for a mid-century screen that has been thoughtfully adapted for hanging as artwork. less
