Up for sale is this original Gustave Baumann color woodcut print, a plate from James Whitcomb Riley's book of poetry, "All the Year Round", with poems and woodcut prints for each month. (Riley's poem describing the month will also be included - see photos.)
This print has an image size is 7 3/8" x 6 3/8" on an 8 1/2" x 10 1/2" page and is initialed on the plate. Matted in an 11" x 14" pH neutral mat for ease of framing in a ready-made frame, it is in very good, gently-used condition, as pictured.
About the Artist:
Gustave Baumann (June 27, 1881 – October 8, 1971) was an American printmaker and painter, and one of the leading figures of the color woodcut revival in America. His works have been shown at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, and National Gallery in Washington DC and the New Mexico Museum of Art, He is also recognized for his role in the 1930s as area coordinator of the Public Works of Art Project of the Works Progress Administration.
