Originating from the traditional Baga art of Guinea, this carved wooden stool is a remarkable piece where utilitarian function, symbolic power, and sculptural excellence converge.
The circular platform rests on three finely carved anthropomorphic Nimba figures, kneeling and facing outwards. Their stylized faces, elaborate headdresses, and solemn postures embody the emblematic figure of the Nimba, a symbol of fertility, prosperity, protection, and abundance in Baga culture.
Each figure supports the platform with gravity, making this stool much more than a simple seat:
it becomes a ritual, architectural, and sculptural object, imbued with meaning and presence.
The wood's deep, dark patina, marked by time and use, reveals authentic craftsmanship and lends the piece an aura that is both primal and majestic.
