A superb antique Satsuma vase from Japan, dating to the late Meiji period (late 19th to early 20th century). This miniature cabinet piece is signed by the Shuzan (珠山) workshop. The vase is crafted from fine earthenware with a characteristic crackle glaze.
It is notable for its sophisticated decoration which employs a "stippled" gold technique—a background of minute gold dots that adds depth and richness to the surface. The hand-painted reserves feature a figural scene of ladies and children, executed with remarkable delicacy, and a contrasting landscape scene with bamboo.
This piece represents the height of the "Golden Age" of Satsuma export pottery, combining technical precision with traditional Japanese aesthetics. Ideally suited for display in a collector's cabinet or as a sophisticated accent in a curated interior.
