Entirely hand-decorated with geometric designs and finished in pure gold, it is unsigned, but only numbered under the base with incised numbers. Parian porcelain is a type of biscuit porcelain that imitates marble. It was developed around 1845 by the important English manufacturer Mintons in Staffordshire and took its name from Paros, the Greek island renowned for its fine-textured white Parian marble, used since ancient times for sculpture. We believe the jug is English and dates to the late 19th century. See less
