The Murano vase is composed of a large, open amphora-shaped bowl, to which large glass drops have been hot-applied, extending from the base to the top of the bowl. Six large drops extend along the entire surface of the vase. Also note the rim, which is not perfectly straight but features loops along its entire perimeter. The vase is very beautiful and impressive, even for the thickness of the glass alone. Crystal, or crystalline glass, is a transparent glass. Its production involves purifying raw materials through repeated melting, immersing the molten glass in water, and remelting. This method was invented by Angelo Barovier in the 15th century. See less
