St. John is shown carrying a book, a traditional symbol associated with the Evangelist.
The painted surface shows extensive age-related distress, including cracks, separation of the wood, and widespread wear to the paint layer. Heavier areas of distress are visible along the top and bottom edges, consistent with the panel having been nailed to a surface at some point in its history. A large gouge is present at the upper left corner.
The softened, time-worn paint surface reflects many years of age and devotional use. Despite the visible wear, the panel remains solid and stable. Ready to be hung and enjoyed, this is a compelling example of religious folk art with strong presence and historical character.
