Originally designed as a practical and portable stool for fishermen, this stool offered storage space beneath the seat, while its conical shape ensured stability while fishing. Because the Tam Tam is made of polypropylene, a design revolution in the 1960s and 70s, it's lightweight and therefore easy to carry.

Its huge success came in 1969, when a photo appeared in the magazine Ici Paris showing Brigitte Bardot with several Tam Tams in her living room. The stool became a cult object and, barely a year later, was added to the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
