Linnet, “Lady in Waiting” by Vivian D. Shimmon (American, 1923–2008), a delicate mid-century ink drawing depicting a small bird nestled among abstracted foliage. Executed with expressive line work and an economy of mark, the composition reflects Shimmon’s academic training and her later involvement with California art institutions.
Shimmon studied at the Newark, New Jersey School of Fine and Industrial Arts (1944) and later worked with the Rosicrucian Press, exhibiting at Rosicrucian Park and the Saisset Gallery at the University of Santa Clara. Her work bridges representational subject matter with modernist abstraction.
