Overview For sale is a stunning hand-crafted pottery vessel by the noted Nicaraguan artisan Juan Paulino Martinez. Originating from the famous pottery village of San Juan de Oriente, this piece is a beautiful example of the region's distinctive "sgraffito" (etched) technique. The vase features bold geometric bands of diamonds and triangles in rich earth tones of terracotta, deep blue, sage green, and black, all polished to a smooth, semi-gloss finish.

Design & Technique:
The intricate design is created by applying layers of colored mineral oxides and then hand-carving (incising) the clay to reveal the outlines before firing. The geometric patterns are precise and wrap continuously around the shoulder of the jar. The bottom is signed: "Hand Made in Nicaragua / Juan Paulino Martinez / San Juan de Oriente."

Condition: Excellent Vintage/Pre-owned Condition. Minor glaze irregularity shown in 2nd photo. No cracks, chips or crazing.
There are no visible chips, cracks, or repairs.
The surface retains a beautiful sheen.
