A rare and distinguished set of three of antique Staffordshire flatback figurines depicting naval and military scenes. (Circa 1850-1880)
Richly hand-painted in glossy red, blues, and creams, each piece features expressive figures, period uniforms, and titled bases, making this set a standout display for collectors of historical decor or Staffordshire ceramics. Displayed together, they create an elegant focal point embodying historical storytelling of British military history.
Staffordshire flatbacks were a popular form of decorative art in Victorian England. The flatbacks were intended to be displayed on mantles or bookshelves.
The set includes:
"The Victory" - (Approx. 8" x 5.5" x 3") - Depicts an English sailor with French and Turkish soldiers commemorating Crimean war alliances.
"The Alliance" - (Approx. 11" x 5" x 3") - Depicts Napoleon III and Prince Albert
"Death of Nelson" - ( Approx. 6" x 5' x 3") - Depicts Admiral Nelson supported by two sailors aboard HMS Victory in his final moments at Trafalgar.
