This 4 piece set of Shenango China Restaurant Ware was made for the centennial anniversary of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1927. It is a blue and white transfer ware pattern depicting various scenes from the B & O Railroad's history: the Philip E. Thomas Steam Train, a horse drawn train are on each side of the cup and teapot; Cumberland Narrows on a celery dish. Each item has a transfer on the individual tea or hot water pot, a demitasse cup, and butter pat. All four items are from the centennial year, 1927. The small hot water tea pitcher has an issue where the lid is stuck in position and will not remove. If you are using it for display, this will not be a noticeable issue, but will make using it impossible. I have tried soaking it in hot water to loosen the lid, but don't want to force it.
It's a great gift for your favorite old time train lover, a remembrance of when train travel was boutique and civilized, and the hardship and involved in making train travel possible.
Perhaps a very thoughtful retirement gift, Father's Day present, husband's birthday or anniversary remembrance. Or anyone's favorite train collector.
