This work is the 112th issue of the prestigious Society of Medalists series, produced in 1985 in an edition of 750. It was struck by Medallic Art Co., Danbury, Connecticut, and is executed in silver-plated bronze with a rich antiqued patina.

The obverse, titled Escape, depicts a nude male figure pursuing a nude female figure across a circular central aperture. The reverse, titled Capture, presents the continuation of the narrative, with the male figure grasping the female’s arm. The medal is initialed “RM” on the obverse and bears engraved inscriptions along the rim identifying the Society of Medalists issue, artist, date, and foundry.

Dimensions: approximately 2.9 inches in diameter × 1 inch thick.

Richard McDermott Miller was one of the leading American figural sculptors of the late twentieth century and served as president of both the National Sculpture Society and the National Academy of Design. International museums and private collections represent his work.

Condition

Excellent vintage condition with minor wear to the outer edges and light surface patina consistent with age. No structural issues. Please refer to the photographs for details.
