A wide link chain of flattened lozenges with an etched design; from which is suspended a round-edged rectangular medallion with large Asian characters, with a seated buddha dangling over it. The detailing is meticulous and the plating is in impeccable condition. The singular matte gold finish on this was created by Eugene Joseff for jewelry to be worn in films, to minimize the glare from harsh studio set lights. His vast reference library allowed him to design jewelry for historically-based films of the period; his creations were seen on the top actresses of the time -- Marlene Dietrich in Shanghai Express, Greta Garbo in Camille, Vivien Leigh in Gone With The Wind, to name just a few. When the big Hollywood stars wanted to wear his creations off-screen, he initiated a retail line that was sold in high-end department stores. These signed pieces are very rare, greatly prized, and much sought-after. This is a piece of Golden Age Hollywood history. Signed "Joseff".
