Antique Black Laquered Chinese Export Fan Box. These boxes where commonly made in China in the late 19th to early 20th century, especially for the export market, and were designed specifically to hold folding fans. The decorative scenes with small figures in garden or landscape settings, along with floral and scroll borders, are typical of Chinese lacquerware from that period.
This box has a long narrow rectangular form, a hinged lid with a small keyhole, and black lacquer with gilt figural landscape decoration.
