Beautiful glazed and enameled ceramic plate, entirely hand-decorated, depicting a Renaissance scene, a rural idyll with various characters. The writing on the edge is barely legible, probably the title of the work depicted and the name of the decorator, along with the date of the work. This is a type of decoration that the Cantagalli factory created in the late 19th century by various decorators such as Luigi Paoletti, Vincenzo Bartolini, Jafet Torelli, and others, as you can see in the last photos, which show a very similar plate from the Stibbert collections. The signature on our plate is certainly one of these, but unfortunately it is illegible. These are very, very rare plates from Cantagalli's production. The patina is beautiful, especially on the chipped edge, which attests to the piece's age. The resemblance between our plate and the one in the volume dedicated to Cantagalli ceramics, shown in the photos below, is striking; the tree foliage is virtually identical.
