In the center of the frieze are two gilded, cherub-like figures wearing only swags of tastefully draped fabric who flank a pedestal that lifts what appears to be an accumulation of flowers. Note that the character to the right side has lost its face and the void is filled with paint in an attempt to obscure this fact. The pair are joined by lyres and laurel branches emanating from the top of the fluted columns to the left and right of the original mirror glass like a tabernacle mirror. The wood backing has been painted a dusky shade of blue, almost Prussian in nuanced tone, that makes a nice complement to the gilt and the dark haze of foxing across the reflection. A line of foliate decoration extends across the bottom edge of the frame in between the two protective feet. Please view the detailed images to see more of this exciting trumeau mirror. See less
