The modernist … Read more Charles Piguet (1887 - 1942) designed and crafted this stunning pair of wrought iron candelabras in the 1920s. The modernist design features a four-candle-holder shape with a medieval-inspired flair. The candlesticks have the original gunmetal patina. The CP monogram for Charles Piguet is present on each piece.
Measurements: 12.19 in wide (31 cm) by 3.75 in deep (9.5 cm) by 7.50 in high (19 cm).

Note: Charles Piguet (1887-1942) was born in Switzerland in 1887. He studied at the Fine Arts School, became an architect in 1910, and worked in a big company in Lausanne. In 1913, he settled in Lyon, France, and worked for Berliet. Remarked for his ability and precision, he rapidly entered the design studio. During World War I, he established his atelier to study and develop techniques in ironwork. After the war, he decided to open his own company. Since 1918, he has exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in Paris and, in 1925, at the Salon des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
In 1921, an article titled "L'art du forgeron" in Mobilier & Décoration Magazine mentioned his name. In 1923, an exclusive article presented his work in Art & Decoration Magazine. Finally, several of his pieces are also available in the Charles Moreau portfolio on modern ironwork.
He collaborated with the architect and furniture designer Michel Roux-Spitz (1888-1857) and realized beautiful doors, floor lamps, chandeliers, tables, and balconies. All the pieces are handmade, beautiful in quality, expensive, and sold to the bourgeoisie. He became a teacher at the Fine Arts School of Lyon and a council member for the Exposition des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne 1937, Paris. His work is gradually eclipsed by the new iron Parisian designers Raymond Subes and Gilbert Poillerat. He died in 1942 of complete exhaustion due to the hardness of this activity. See less
