Made in China, for export to the Americas or Britain circa late 18th century or early 19th century.

Made from what appears to be Hongmu wood, a type of rosewood from southern China. A heavy dense wood.

Arched Queen Anne style back, with a flat carved splat. Cabriole legs, with carved webbed trifid feet. The front apron is scroll cut, and the side seat rails are through tenoned into the rear stiles of the back. All joints on the lower turned stretcher are through tenoned as well. The carving on the splat is the Chinese symbol for longevity. The slip seat itself is flat wood, and can be removed.


Size: 23” wide, 20” deep, 37 1/2” tall. 17” seat height.

Condition: The seat has a age related shrinkage split, as well as it’s reinforced with plywood on the underside. Use and wear scuff/scratches/ding are consistent with the age of the piece. See less
