Beautiful, large, glazed and vitrified ceramic plate, entirely hand-decorated. The rim features a portrait of Scipio Africanus, a famous Roman army leader, with a parchment inscription where only the first part of the subject's name, "SCIP," can be seen. The rim features classic Gualdo Tadino decorations, consisting of alternating bands of scales, very similar to those of the Ginori factory, and Raphaelesque decorations. The plate, finished with a Sienese gold metallic luster, is unsigned and made in Gualdo Tadino. It dates to the early 19th century. See less
