a wonderful pair of small hard-paste porcelain sculptures, depicting two characters from the commedia dell'arte, a dandy and a lady holding puppets. They are signed under the base with the ancient ginori mark in underglaze blue, consisting of an "n" under a crown with five drops, dating to the first half of the 19th century. The hard-paste porcelain used is of excellent quality, compact and rich in kaolin and feldspar, which allowed for the rich vitrification of the two sculptures. The artistic level and attention to detail are of the highest standard; each decoration was executed entirely by hand with a brush tip. Notice the beauty of the faces and the two puppets, meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail. Finally, the classical pose of the two sculptures, in true rococo style, is beautiful, a true gem for art lovers and collectors.
information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
the ginori porcelain factory in doccia was one of the most prestigious european porcelain manufacturers. It was founded by marquis carlo ginori in 1737, in a villa he owned in doccia (now incorporated into sesto fiorentino). Carlo ginori's descendants continued to own and manage it until 1896, when it merged with the società ceramica richard of milan, creating richard ginori, a factory that is still operating today. In the last photo, we've included historical information about the factory taken from our important french volume specializing in european ceramics and porcelain, including some of the many marks used, including our own, specifically the number 19, used in the 19th century, as noted in the book's notes in the photos.
