a stunning two-handled futurist-style ceramic vase, crafted from wheel-turned clay, glazed and entirely hand-decorated with floral motifs and finished in pure gold. It is signed under the base by the m.g.a. Manufacturer and marked "italy" as its provenance. The vase, in our opinion, is truly beautiful, crafted in true futurist style. Its shape and handles reflect, in a stylized and modernized way, the shape of ancient greek or roman amphorae. The bold, clear colors include the blood-red base, which contrasts sharply with the black foliage. A rare piece, offered at an excellent price.
information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
the mga (mazzotti giuseppe arte) factory was founded by giuseppe mazzotti in 1903. In 1925, several ceramic pieces bearing the "m.g.a." trademark were presented at the international exhibition of decorative and modern arts in paris, and their success opened the factory to the international market. In 1950, "m.g.a." was invited to represent italian ceramic production at the italian craft exhibition at the brooklyn museum in new york. In 1928, the factory published a catalog of its production, presenting over five hundred classic and modern ceramics, as well as the first futurist-style works. From 1928, torido's brother, tullio (known as tullio d'albisola), began to gather around the factory a growing group of futurist artists who designed and created for m.g.a. The ceramics that made it famous worldwide. Some of the world's greatest ceramists collaborated with the factory, including nicolaj diulgheroff, romeo bevilacqua, lino berzoini, bartolomeo tortarolo, nino strada, and many other celebrated artists. In the last photo, after the object, we've included some historical information about the factory, for those interested in learning more.
