A wonderful, rare pair of Murano blown glass sculptures, depicting two large ducks or drakes. The main body is made of pink glass, obtained by adding colloidal gold, and is inserted into an outer layer of clear glass, then welded together using the sommerso technique. The two sculptures are made of solid, extremely heavy glass. Both are unsigned, but easily attributed to the Murano glassworks of Archimede Seguso. The two sculptures, as can be seen from the position of the ducks, were specially created as a pair in the Art Deco style. They are much larger than similar, usually single, sculptures for sale, a feature that makes our pair extremely rare and valuable.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Archimede Seguso (Murano, December 17, 1909 – Murano, September 6, 1999) was an Italian entrepreneur and master glassmaker. Considered "a living encyclopedia of glass" (as Giuseppe Cappa described him in his book "Le Genie Verrier de L’Europe"), he was one of the most renowned Venetian glassmakers, particularly distinguished in the crafting of heavy glass (known as massello). He boasts numerous auction results and thousands of collectors. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
