A refined Meissen porcelain sugar bowl with cover, produced in 1774 at the start of the Marcolini period. The form and decoration belong to the late Rococo tradition that continued at Meissen during this decade.
Painted with Watteau-style fêtes galantes scenes showing elegant figures in pastoral garden settings. The cover is surmounted by a rosebud finial (Rosenknospenknauf) and decorated en suite. The base bears the underglaze blue crossed swords mark.
