A delightful cylindrical bowl in sommerso blown glass, made by Mdina Glass, a leading artistic glass manufacturer operating in Malta … Read more A delightful cylindrical bowl in sommerso blown glass, made by Mdina Glass, a leading artistic glass manufacturer operating in Malta and founded in 1968 by Michael Harris. It is signed "Mdina" under the diamond-pointed base, and features a heavily oxidized stamp with the Maltese cross and the inscription "Mdina Glass." This glass belongs to the factory's early production, as evidenced by the evident patina on the vase itself and the cartouche. The glass is composed of a series of vertical bands of yellow ochre on a main body of glass that ranges from light green to light blue, creating striking shades.

Michael Harris (1933-1994) was a great English artist and glassmaker. with his wife, Elizabeth, he founded Mdina Glass on the island of Malta in 1968. They left Malta in 1972 and established the Isle of Wight Studio. In 1989 they founded Gozo Glass in Gozo, an island near Malta, a factory that is still active today. This piece has an attribution mark,
