Bronze bust on a marble base depicting a Neapolitan street urchin wearing a classic fisherman's hat, cigarette, and fishing net … Read more Bronze bust on a marble base depicting a Neapolitan street urchin wearing a classic fisherman's hat, cigarette, and fishing net over his shoulder. Signed "D'Orsi" on the side of the hat with an incised signature. Crafted in a Romantic style, it dates back to the late 19th century or the first decade of the 20th century. The evident patina covering the entire sculpture is beautiful; the bronze appears rather dark, tending more toward black than brown. We obviously do not have expertise or certificates of authenticity, although we believe this sculpture to be authentic, given the type of bronze used, the patina, and the signature. However, these are merely our opinions.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Achille D'Orsi (1845-1929) was an Italian sculptor. A student of Tito Angelini and Tommaso Solari at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, he perfected his art during a stay in Rome before returning to live in the Campania capital. He boasts numerous auction results and is internationally renowned for the quality and beauty of his bronze sculptures. This piece has an attribution mark,
