The painting depicts a female figure wrapped in a peplos, holding a lyre. She is identifiable as a Muse, specifically Erato, the muse of lyric poetry. Altamura, an Italian painter, writer, and patriot, made a name for himself with religious and historical subjects, as well as portraits, painted with a powerful, textured brushstroke, almost devoid of contours, which lends intensity to the figures. The work is presented in a late 19th-early 20th-century frame in gilded wood and plaster. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
