David Mac Innes 1926-2023 was a lifetime artist, his first known painting was completed in 1947. He was very active at the Palos Verdes Art Center in California- along with his wife, also an artist. His art is truly masterful in technique and vision- full of movement, color, and light.
David Mac Innes 1926-2023 -Biography-
Worked in Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA and New York City as an Art Director/Designer, and Art Supervisor.
Graduate Cleveland Institute of Art. :I'm a firm believer in the cross-fertilization of ideas and creative inspiration to be gained by working in both the 'fine' and ‘applied arts' fields. The ability to communicate is primary in the 'applied" arts areas. With the art that is spelled with a capital "A" -if you will-it is my attempt to bring a uniquely personal vision to life. It is a great pleasure and responsibility no matter what the media. By both design and inclination, my work doesn't carry a 'signature' style' or identification with a specific movement-which allows me greater leeway in pursuing what I perceive as new avenues of creative invention. Hopefully, my head, heart and hands will be on good talking terms with each other. My traditional training has evolved to where my present work is primarily abstract. Currently I am combining elements of painting, monoprint, drawing, photography and digital and video sources to arrive at the final image. Aside from seeing as many shows, galleries and museums as possible another source of inspiration is keeping a daily sketchbook for thoughts and sketches while traveling. Seeing and studying
the works of Cezanne in Provence, Picasso in Paris and Barcelona, Matisse in Nice and Hiroshige in Japan in the environment that shaped their art has been meaningful. Also, following closely the changes and advances in art since their time. I attempt to incorporate some of these observations and experiences into my own work...if only by osmosis!: - David Mac Innes
