This is an original 1773 oil painting by the French artist Claude Vernet titled "A Shipwreck in Stormy Seas." This large canvas painting depicts a seascape in a neoclassicism/romantism style, with a realist theme. It is framed and measures 36 inches in length, 27 inches in height, and 3.5 inches in width. This one-of-a-kind piece was handmade in France during the production technique of oil painting, making it a unique and valuable addition to any art collection.

Claude Joseph Vernet, born in Avignon, August 14, 1712 and died in Paris, December 23, 1789. French school, he was a marine painter and son and pupil of Antoine Vernet and pupil of Adrien Manglard. He went to Rome in 1732 and studied under many great artists. He became the first marine painter in Europe and was commissioned by the king to paint all the seaports of France, of which he completed 15 of the 20.
