17th-century chestnut console or buffet with exceptionally deep patina and centuries of wear reflecting its early origins. The piece features a high back with simple carved panels, an uncommon detail that adds presence and character.
The top drawer is fitted with wrought iron handles and a heart-shaped key cover. The lower drawer shows more extensive distress than the upper with wooden pulls and extensive signs old wormhole activity consistent with age. Drawer bottoms display typical early plank separation.
Constructed with wood pegs rather than nails, the console showcases traditional 17th-century craftsmanship. Feet exhibit significant surface wear from long-term use. Cracks, gouges, and filled repairs are visible throughout, along with age-related distress in the back panel and dentil molding along upper cornice.
Restored, strong, and stable, this rare early chestnut piece functions well as a console or buffet while displaying the powerful character of true 17th-century European furniture.
