cupid's revenge
the graces steal cupid's bow, playfully disarming the god of love. But in the second tondo, little cupid takes revenge by chasing them with his arrows. Two light and refined episodes, symbolizing the ongoing interplay of love between eros and beauty.

engraver: gabriel scorodomoff, born in st. Petersburg in 1748 and died there in 1792, moved to england at a young age, where he studied under bartolozzi. He lived in london from 1775 to 1782, engraved subjects by the most celebrated artists of the time, and upon returning to his hometown, executed the portrait of empress catherine.
based on a subject by angelica kauffman, a celebrated painter born in chur on october 30, 1740, and died in rome on november 5, 1807. A highly regarded artist, art was her heart and she had a special love for italy.
