Each bookend is cast in high relief with an architectural scene incorporating Ionic columns and laurel wreaths, evoking a view into an ancient Greek interior—often interpreted as Penelope at her loom or a classical spinning scene.

The bookends are well cast and substantial in weight, with a gilt or gold-toned patina applied over the iron surface. The backs display a stippled texture. The bases are flat and unlined, with no felt applied. While unmarked, the design and construction are consistent with known Bradley & Hubbard cast iron bookends from the period.

MEASUREMENTS
4 ¾ in (12.1 cm) wide x 1 ¾ in (4.5 cm) deep x 4 in (10.2 cm) tall. Weighs 2 lbs 4.5 oz.

CONDITION
The bookends are structurally sound with no breaks, cracks, dents, or chips. There is wear to the original gold patina, along with light surface rust visible on the bases, backs, and front areas, consistent with age and use. The bases are unfelted.
