The broad horizontal compositions emphasize the calm expanse of the river, palm-lined shores, and the subtle rhythm of small sailing vessels navigating the Nile. Both plates originate from Voyage d’Égypte et de Nubie by Frederik Ludvig Norden, first published in Copenhagen in 1755. Norden, a Danish naval officer and accomplished draughtsman, was among the earliest European travelers to document Egypt with scientific accuracy and visual restraint.
