The surface is enriched through hand enamelling and gilding applied over transfer printing, resulting in a visually strong and decorative object. The moulded scalloped rim with gilt edging gives the plate a pronounced presence, characteristic of Edwardian presentation wares, circa 1915.

The design draws on late Victorian Mason’s patterns influenced by Japanese art, illustrating how motifs were adapted for European decorative ceramics. Intended as a decorative object rather than functional tableware, this charger works particularly well as a standalone display piece.

The base bears the Mason’s Patent Ironstone mark, the registered design number Rd No 652974 (British Registered Design system, Board of Trade), impressed factory codes “W5H”, and a handwritten factory reference “c. 1460”.

Dimensions and weight: diameter 26.5 cm, height 3 cm, weight 579 g.

Condition: On the reverse, a very small and localised area of enamel yellowing, barely visible. Otherwise in ideal condition.
