A finely crafted 19th century mahogany snake-foot tripod pillar table, executed in the English Regency tradition and distinguished by its entirely wood construction and hand-fitted craftsmanship. The generously proportioned 22.5-inch circular top displays well-figured mahogany and a warm, naturally developed patina, raised on a finely turned central column and supported by three elegant serpentine legs terminating in classic snake feet.
The table is constructed without the use of any metal fasteners—no screws, nails, or plates. The three legs were individually hand-shaped and custom fitted, requiring installation in a specific order. This non-interchangeable assembly is characteristic of handcrafted furniture, and contrasts with later factory-made or modular tripod tables with standardized components.
Traditionally used as a candle stand or occasional table, the 27-inch height makes this example particularly versatile today as a side table or lamp table. The table has been sympathetically cleaned and stabilized, preserving original materials, surface character, and patina while ensuring it remains solid and functional.
Select images from the restoration process are included to document original construction and joinery, providing transparency and confidence for discerning buyers.
We love the individually hand-fitted legs and traditional all-wood joinery, subtle details that distinguish this table from later factory-made examples.
