First founded as a paper manufacturing business in 1866, what eventually became The Kittinger Furniture Company is now known for their intense focus on creating pieces of quality craftsmanship. Irvine J. Kittinger once infamously said “Our business is not primarily to turn furniture into money, but to produce something really worthwhile.” In 1937, they were selected as the exclusive licensed maker of furniture reproductions for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Their craftsmen produced meticulous 18th-century authentic copies of historic American and English pieces for over 50 years. Since then, the Kittinger brand has became synonymous with the highest standards of colonial reproduction furniture, often used in homes and institutions seeking classical authenticity.
This elegant pair of vintage mahogany end tables was crafted with uncompromising craftsmanship and heirloom-grade materials. Each table features clean, architectural lines softened by subtle period detailing: gently scalloped aprons with classic pierced cut-outs, square tapered legs, and a restrained raised gallery edge that frames the tabletop without visual heaviness. The proportions are particularly successful—substantial enough to anchor a space, yet refined enough for formal interiors.
Constructed in solid mahogany with carefully matched grain, the tables retain a rich, warm finish that highlights the depth and natural character of the wood. The lower shelves provide practical storage while visually grounding the design—ideal for books, baskets, or decorative objects. These are versatile pieces that work beautifully as end tables, bedside tables, or flanking chairs or sofas in a formal living room.
Both tables retain their original Kittinger paper label, along with a stamped factory mark, confirming authentic manufacture in Buffalo, New York. This combination of label and stamp is highly desirable to collectors and decorators alike, as it firmly places these pieces within Kittinger’s most respected production period.
Stylistically, these tables bridge multiple design worlds: perfect for Colonial Revival, Traditional, Georgian, or Federal-inspired interiors, yet equally at home layered into curated transitional or designer eclectic spaces where warmth and craftsmanship are paramount.
