Four fine quality "Nippon" AUTHENTIC vases from the Meiji dynasty; Japan, Circa 1910. They are all hand painted with moriage accents to three of them; indicative and representative of the prime era of fine quality Japanese porcelain makers during the turn of the 19th century, say 1891 through 1921. Colors are crisp and not faded. The "Diving Eagle" bud vase and the diminutive Deer themed vase are particularly difficult to find and sought after by collectors. Measurements and condition of each are below.
1) Double handled small vase with abundant entirely hand painted floral and village rural themed scenery with a church and farmhouse; decorated in a multiplicity of colors in beige, white and green; with moriage raised gold leaf framing around the main scene to the front; hand painted enamel to the interior; appropriate maker's mark to the underneath. It is in excellent and all original condition with no repairs and no restoration, chips, or touch up of any kind. Circa 1910.
Dimensions: 5" high x 4" wide x 4" deep
2) "Diving Eagle" hand painted diminutive bud vase depicts a black eagle soaring downward in a mountainous setting as the moon rises in the background and birds fly on the rear of the vase. Muted colors of orange and green blend pleasantly together with white a enamel interior. Maker's mark appears on the bottom. In excellent and all original condition with no repairs and no restoration, chips, or touch up of any kind. Circa 1895.
Dimensions: 4" high x 3 1/4" diameter
3) This miniature bud vase is a more rare piece of "Nippon" with a highly decorative multi colored and extensive moriage application to the thematic deer in a green forest as the main character; and thread and tassel scales on a brown background defining the bottom half of the vase.
Decorated on all sides and moriage throughout with beads and patterned basket weave to the two sided handles, collectors would find this a wonderful addition to their collection of fine representative "nippon" porcelain. Old maker's mark on the underneath. In excellent and all original condition with no repairs and no restoration, chips, or touch up of any kind. Circa 1895.
Dimensions: 4 1/8" high x 3" wide x 2 3/8" deep
4) Moriage applied geometric design to double handled small vase with hand painted pastoral country barn scene in muted blended colors of green, blue and a reddish "sunset" glow. The vase is all original condition with no repairs and no restoration, and no touch up of any kind. There is a 3/4" chip to the underneath of this piece (see image). It does not impact the structural nor the visual as it is on the underneath above the "Nippon" maker's mark. Circa 1895.
Dimensions: 5 1/2" high x 4 n1/8" wide x 2 1/4" deep
Note: Moriage is a decorating technique that was used predominantly during the Nippon and Meiji period in Japan (1891-1921) by fine quality porcelain makers, which incorporated the use of applied premium clay subjects to embellish the decor and present a three dimensional appearance.
