An exceptional pair of George III style knife boxes on pedestal cabinets made in the middle of the 20th Century. Dating in design style back to the late 18th to early 19th century, these elegant Neoclassical dining room appointments served both decorative and functional purposes in wealthy households.
The pedestals are H 40.5” x W 18.3/4” x D 19.5", the knife boxes are H 25.5” & D 10”. The knife boxes feature telescoping urns with pull up domed lids, fitted interiors and square bases on ogee bracket feet placed on the associated pedestal cabinets with square tops, brass hardware on molded bases. The doors of the cabinets open to opposite directions, there are two shelves in each cabinet.
