Antique Japanese Kutani ware covered koro (incense burner) / decorative lidded jar dating to the late Meiji-early Tasiho period (circa 1890 - 1920). The porcelain body is finely hand-painted with figural court-life scenes set in landscaped garden reserves. Rendered in classic Kutani enamels of iron red, emerald green, pink,m and cobalt blue with generous gilt highlights throughout.
The jar is elevated on sculptural deep cobalt-blue glazed tripod feet. (Characteristic of higher-quality Kutani decorative wares.) The domed lid features a cobalt finial. Lid fits securely.
A handpainted red Kutani workshop mark appears on the underside.
