Antique ceramic advertising calendar paperweight made in France and marked G.D. Paris Depose for Georges Dreyfus on the base. This example was produced for W. W. Wattles & Sons - a prominent jeweler and silversmith firm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The decoration shows Columbus with the dates 1492 and 1892, surrounded by monthly calendar panels. These paperweights were produced around 1892 for the 400th anniversary of the Columbus voyage and were likely given to customers as a luxury promotional gift.
This is a glazed ceramic transfer print piece with clear lettering and strong detail. A fine example of an original Victorian advertising calendar paperweight.
