Auguste Nicolas Cain (French, 1822-1894) bronze sculpture depicting a crowing rooster perched atop naturalistic base of stylized log over large leaf form dish, decorated with blackberries.

Signed, inscribed below the rooster and again on the dish: 'A. CAIN'

A strong and well regarded animalier sculptor, Cain's Crowing Cock with richly detailed musculature, extensive textures, movement, and raw power of this scene can easily be felt.

Cain was a noted member of the French Animaliers school, and is known for his realistic depictions of wild and domestic animals as well as birds. The artist was a prolific and award winning exhibitor at the Paris Salon, showing 38 models from 1846 to 1888
