An evocative pair of antique French Art Nouveau copper-clad figural appliques, dating to circa 1880-1920. Each plaque features a sculptural female figure in flowing drapery, rendered in high relief with expressive movement emblematic of the Art Nouveau period. The tambourine motif and sinuous lines reflect the era's fascination with rhythm, music, and idealized feminine form.
Cast metal with a copper-clad (copper-washed) finish, these plaques were likely originally mounted as architectural or furniture appliques, possibly adorning cabinetry, doors, or interior decorative panels. Evidence of original mounting holes supports their early functional decorative use. The surfaces display authentic age wear and a richly developed patina consistent with period application.
Today, they present beautifully as wall-mounted decorative sculptures and may be displayed symmetrically as a pair or styled as statement accents. A compelling and collectible example of French Art Nouveau decorative arts with architectural provenance and timeless visual appeal.
Likely American or European manufacture
WHY I LOVE THESE! The fronts are excellently restored or polished with rich copper hue, crisp relief detail. The backs are moderate oxidation and age related corrosion, and structural integrity is sound, with original mounting holes intact. No cracks or repairs observed. Keep the history alive with these beautiful pieces!

The plaques exhibit moderate oxidation and age related corrosion, characteristic of spelter (pot metal) with a copper-clad/copper -washed surface, commonly used in quality mass-produced decorative arts of the late Victorian and early Edwardian period. Surface wear, patina variation, and minor casting irregularities are present and appropriate with age. Mounting holes remain intact, supporting their likely original use as architectural or furniture appliques. No structural instability observed. less
