Offered is a 1970s burnished ceramic Chip and Dip Set from Tonalá in Jalisco, Mexico and created by Ken Edwards - renowned for his studio, El Palomar. The province is famed for its earth-tone clay and the pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s.
It has a bird, butterfly and flower motif, typical of the region, as are the colors, made from natural tints native to the area. This is a soft blue gray base with a rust and black trim on the rim, and deeper blue birds and butterflies. Hand-painted and burnished glaze. Stamped "El Palomar Mexico" and featuring his signature emblems, a spider and a snail.
Larger bowl measures 11.375" diameter, 2.5" high, and
smaller bowl measures 4.25" diameter, 2.25" high.
