I acquired a collection of lent's work directly from his estate a few years ago and they are really fantastic works. Lent was a world famous illustrator who won the caldecott award for children's book illustration back in 1973. His work was not limited to illustration as he did these wonderful intaglio monotype paintings. Basically, the artist would create a matrix on wood of cut paper and collage that would create these scenes. They would be painted and then pressed to the page creating the monotype painting. This is a wonderful mondernist natural form abstracts that sort of resembles a cityscape. Image measures 9 3/4 x 12 3/8 inches on complete original sheet measuring 12 1/4 x 15 inches. Painting is in beautiful vibrant as painted condition. The artist's process allowed for thick paint and wonderful texture. Initialed in pen lower left corner. The work is archival hinged into archival backing and matte. On the back of the paper is the artist's original label with title and name. Really a wonderful work.
