Early 1900's antique 10 lb capacity WF Stimpson / Detroit Automatic Scale Company Computing Scale. Would have originally been used in a deli / candy shop etc, but would make a great display in today's kitchen or retail shop for all sorts of items.
This model, which has a serial number on the back, is painted in a beautiful and striking blue color. It has wonderful details like the beveled glass oval windows on each side that allows view into the working mechanisms of the scale, raised lettering on the labels, ornate curved rail at the back of the tray, as well as a gold painted flourish design detail.
The scale is still in working order, however it does tend to stick around the 4lb mark. It is also missing one of its mechanisms from the base that attaches to the scale that would help provide a more accurate weight.
The original marble tray is no longer present and was replaced by a cultured marble tray sometime over the life of this scale. There is also a crack in the glass at the top left corner, however, it is not terribly noticeable due to the numbers etc.
Made from cast iron, glass, and brass, this scale is quite heavy and impressively tall. It comes with a set of English weights that stack nicely. Its a really great example of Americana history and an eye-catching conversation piece.
Measurements: 30" tall x 21" deep x 17" wide.
