Painted in oil on canvas by artist Catherine Dowd (1908–1986), the composition features a large double-ended ferry with the city skyline in the background, capturing the atmosphere of the bay prior to the construction of the Coronado Bridge. The scene reflects the vital role the ferry played in connecting downtown San Diego to Coronado Island before 1969.

The painting is signed by the artist and presented in a custom wood frame with a carved wave motif along the border.
