Item :
A magnificent large glazed ceramic plate, entirely hand-decorated with floral garland decorations and a central dandy in 18th-century attire. It is signed on the back with the Cia Manna mark, a famous Turin manufacturer, a follower of Lenci, dating to the first half of the 20th century.
Useful information for appraising this item:
This manufacturer's artistic production focuses primarily on figurines and odalisques of various shapes and sizes; plates are extremely rare. from our online searches, the only plate we found of the same manufacture, but in our opinion of inferior quality, is listed for €250 plus shipping. For sculptures, mostly depicting Oriental ladies or odalisques, large prices on various online art and antiques sites range from €800-1,000 to over €1,500, depending on the size and quality of the decorations. This gives an idea of the value of the objects created by this renowned Turin-based manufacturer.
Final considerations on the item:
The main feature of this plate is the beauty of the floral garland decoration, slightly stylized in full Art Deco style. It is entirely handcrafted, with each flower being slightly different from the next, a decoration of the highest quality. Also noteworthy is the beauty of the central decoration, the subject's pose, the underlying earth, and the plant. All elements echo the decorations on 18th-century Venetian ceramic plates or vases, or even those from Savona, lending the piece an antique feel. These decorations were later reinterpreted according to the Art Deco canons, with more simplified and slightly geometric lines, in the manner of artists such as Guido Andlovitz and Giò Ponti. The gold finishes in the floral decorations are also very beautiful, especially noticeable as the light falls on the plate. They are barely visible in photos, but are visually striking when viewed in person. Finally, the object's dimensions are good, making it a rare and collectible plate.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
In the early 1930s, Mrs. Manna, a former decorator at the Turin-based artistic ceramics manufacturer "Lenci," opened the "C.I.A." (Ceramica Italiana Artistica) artistic ceramics factory in Turin. The factory's creations draw inspiration from Lenci's designs and consist, in the majority of cases, of female figurines, genre statuettes, and ornaments. This piece has an attribution mark,
