A striking mid-century British studio pottery jug, characterised by its bold two-tone glazing and confident hand-thrown form. The upper section is finished in a rich, glossy tenmoku glaze, contrasting beautifully with the warm, textured ochre stoneware body below, which retains visible throwing rings.
The jug features a gently flared spout and a well-balanced, pulled handle, demonstrating skilled studio craftsmanship. An impressed maker’s mark is present to the lower body, applied before firing, indicating hand production rather than factory manufacture.
This piece has been attributed by an auction house to Russell Collins, a British studio potter active in the mid-20th century. While the impressed mark and form are consistent with studio practice of the period, the attribution cannot be confirmed with absolute certainty and is therefore offered as attributed rather than signed.
A sculptural yet functional object, ideal for collectors of British studio ceramics or as a statement decorative vessel. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
